ENCINITAS – The Encinitas Planning Commission has postponed a decision on a proposed expansion of Sanderling Waldorf School in the Cardiff community.
Since 2006, the school has been seeking permits to triple the number of children it serves. After more than five hours of public testimony and discussion Thursday, the Planning Commission continued the matter to Sept. 4.
Dozens of parents attended the hearing wearing white T-shirts to support the project.
Several neighbors spoke against the project, saying an expansion would bring more playground noise and traffic. Some criticized the prefabricated buildings that would be installed.
The private preschool hopes to increase enrollment in phases from 30 to 110 students, which would involve both preschool and elementary students.
Plans call for four modular classrooms and reconfiguring the driveway and playground on the 1.12-acre site at 1401 Windsor Road.
