Local swimmers also going the distance

UNION-TRIBUNE

July 25, 2008
Two other local residents will be attempting marathon swimming firsts this summer.

Becky Jackman, 45, of La Mesa is aiming to swim 40 miles from Estonia to Finland on about Aug. 8.

La Jolla's Rendy Lynn Opdycke, 24, hopes to set the record for the shortest time window to complete what's been called marathon swimming's triple crown: the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, the English Channel and the Catalina Channel.

Opdycke completed the New York swim on July 5. She is in England, waiting to cross the English Channel. She hopes to cross the Catalina Channel on Aug. 9 or 10.
