Two arrests made in mall store heist; third sought

UNION-TRIBUNE

October 10, 2008

CARLSBAD: Police have arrested two people in connection with a robbery at Plaza Camino Real mall last month.

Police said a 23-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man entered Macy's on Sept. 1 and robbed an employee.

The man held the worker at gunpoint while the woman and a third person stole display items, police said.

Officers arrested the woman about 2 p.m. Wednesday near Durian and Date streets in Vista, police said. She was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of robbery, commercial burglary and conspiracy.

Later that day, police contacted the man believed to have been armed during the robbery. He was at the George Bailey Detention Facility, where he was in custody on an unrelated charge. Police said he also faces robbery, commercial burglary and conspiracy charges.

Officers said a third person, a man in his mid-20s, is still wanted in connection with the robbery. –A.M.

Woman struck, killed by car is identified

CHULA VISTA: A woman who was struck and killed by a car as she was walking to church has been identified as Teresa McClelland, 50, of Chula Vista, the county Medical Examiner's Office said yesterday.

McClelland was crossing Palomar Street just after 7 p.m. Wednesday and was not in a crosswalk when she was hit by the car heading west, Chula Vista police said.

She was taken to a hospital, where she died about 8:30 p.m., an investigator with the Medical Examiner's Office said.

The driver of the car, a man in his mid-40s, was not injured and was not cited, police said.

The Medical Examiner's Office said McClelland was married, and she worked at a restaurant at North Island Naval Air Station.

Police said she was on her way to the International Christian Center on Third Avenue when she was hit. –D.B.
